Neurological health is the top cause of disability worldwide, but LVIS Corp is committed to revolutionizing diagnosis and treatment through cutting-edge neural information analysis technology.
On June 28, 2024, our company’s recent NeuroForum served as an enlightening platform aimed at educating the public on epilepsy and sleep disorders—two critical areas of brain health that significantly impact millions worldwide.
Bringing together renowned experts, including Professor Son Young-min and Professor Cho Yong-won, the forum highlighted the growing need for awareness and research on brain diseases.
This blog post will recap the key discussions from the NeuroForum and explore the innovative NeuroMatch platform, a cutting-edge digital medical device platform poised to transform diagnosis and treatment in the field.
Understanding Epilepsy & Sleep Disorders
During the NeuroForum, Professor Son Young-min provided a comprehensive overview of epilepsy, a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures. These seizures are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which can manifest in various forms, from brief lapses in attention to severe convulsions.
Professor Son emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in managing epilepsy, as untreated seizures can lead to a higher risk of injury and reduced quality of life.
Following this, Professor Cho Yong-won presented on sleep disorders, shedding light on how conditions like insomnia, sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome can profoundly impact the daily lives of up to a third of all adults.
These disorders not only affect sleep quality but also contribute to various health issues, including cardiovascular disease, depression, and cognitive decline.
Although sleep disorders were a significant topic of discussion at the forum, they are not currently a cleared indication for use of the NeuroMatch platform. Nevertheless, understanding these disorders is crucial in advancing medical technology and improving patient outcomes.
LVIS Korea’s NeuroMatch Platform
A significant highlight of the NeuroForum was the introduction of LVIS Korea’s NeuroMatch platform, an innovative neurotechnology platform designed to enhance the diagnosis and management of various brain diseases.
Dr. Jin Hyung Lee, a leading figure in the development of NeuroMatch and the first Korean woman to be appointed as a tenured Stanford University professor, outlined how this platform leverages advanced algorithms and artificial intelligence to automate the analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) readings.
Traditional EEG readings, which measure electrical activity in the brain, are often time-consuming and require specialized knowledge to interpret accurately. These limitations can delay diagnosis and treatment, potentially compromising patient outcomes.
NeuroMatch addresses these challenges by providing an automated system that processes EEG data, allowing for more efficient and timely diagnosis. The platform’s potential impact extends beyond epilepsy, offering promise in diagnosing and treating a range of brain diseases.
However, it is important to note that NeuroMatch is not yet cleared for use in diagnosing Parkinson’s disease or for inferring gaps and relevant signals between electrodes.
Future of Brain Diagnosis & Treatment
Another focal point of the forum was looking at the future development of a “hospital verification-centered brain disease cluster” in Daegu.
This initiative aims to establish Daegu as a hub for brain health research and treatment, with LVIS Korea playing a pivotal role through its partnership with six major hospitals in the region.
Ryu Dong-hyun, a key figure in this project, shared insights into how this cluster aims to position Daegu as a leader in digital medical devices, particularly in the field of neurodiagnostic technology.
The expansion of AI applications in medical diagnostics holds great promise for the future of brain disease diagnosis and treatment. By integrating AI with advanced imaging and data analysis technologies, platforms like NeuroMatch can significantly enhance our understanding of brain diseases, improve diagnostic accuracy, and enable more personalized treatment plans.
